Tea might seem simple… boil the kettle, grab a tea bag and pour but many Australians are unknowingly making small mistakes that can affect a proper daily brew.
From reboiling yesterday’s water and squeezing the tea bag to leaving it to steep for too little (or too long), the little habits could be standing between you and a proper cup of tea.
It might surprise you but there’s actually a science to boiling your kettle just right. Yorkshire Tea says to treat your water kindly by running the tap for a moment so the water is nicely aerated, and only boil it once to keep the oxygen levels up. Oxygen helps bring out the flavour in your tea, so always use fresh water rather than yesterday’s leftovers.
And whilst the internet can’t seem to agree whether you squeeze or leave your tea bag soaking, Yorkshire Tea says it all depends on your weapon of choice! For mug drinkers, the advice is to gently squeeze the teabag against the side of the mug just once before removing it. Just the once though because if you really mash it, it’ll taste bitter.
The next debate Yorkshire is here to settle is to steep or not to steep? Tea needs time to unlock all of its flavour, so give it 4- 5 minutes to do its thing before removing the teabag. Think of it as the perfect excuse to munch on a biscuit or daydream about your next holiday while your brew works its magic.
