The secret ingredient helping Aussies reclaim dinnertime isn’t in the fridge

Salt, pepper… and a playlist?

New research from HelloFresh suggests music is helping Australians find their flow in the kitchen, with 31% saying it helps them enter a flow state while cooking where they feel more focused, confident and instinctive.

It’s also changing the way we experience food. Half (50%) of Australians aged 18–24 believe certain meals deserve the right soundtrack, while four in ten Australians (40%) nominate Pop as their go-to cooking genre.

To help Aussies get further into a flow state while cooking, HelloFresh has developed three Spotify playlists to match its menu that mirror recent food trends, helping transform dinner from a chore into a more enjoyable, immersive experience.

Now, HelloFresh is exploring the psychology behind why the right soundtrack can change the way we cook. Partnering with psychologist Anastasia Hronis, HelloFresh is unpacking how music can trigger a “flow state” – a psychological state linked to improved focus, reduced stress and greater enjoyment of everyday tasks.

Anastasia is available for interview from July 6 to discuss:

  • Why music changes the way we experience cooking
  • How sound can elevate everyday meals
  • Why some meals deserve the perfect soundtrack
