Follow your nose to Noojee: a new truffle festival launches this winter

A month-long invitation to wander, taste and discover in Noojee and surrounds

This winter, something rare is emerging in the forests and farms around Noojee.

French black truffles — freshly unearthed and at peak aroma — are at the heart of a new month-long celebration, the inaugural Noojee Truffle Festival.

Running from 10th July to 2nd August 2026, the festival invites visitors to follow their nose through Noojee and its surrounds — wandering between truffle farms, forest trails and country kitchens, and discovering something unexpected at every stop.

A festival you don’t just attend — you follow

Built around the theme Follow Your Nose – Truffles, Tracks & Trails, the festival is designed as a journey rather than a single event.

Visitors are encouraged to pick up a map and explore at their own pace — moving from misty forests to working truffle farms, from truffle dogs in action to warm cafés serving winter dishes made with locally grown truffles.

Each stop adds something: a story, a flavour, a moment worth lingering over.

From soil to plate

At the centre of it all are the truffles themselves — grown in the cool climate and rich soils of Noojee and surrounding farms.

The festival offers a rare opportunity to experience truffles close to where they are produced, at the height of the season. Visitors can meet the growers, watch trained dogs uncover truffles beneath the soil, and taste dishes that showcase the ingredient in both simple and creative ways.

Across local cafés, pubs and dining venues, truffles will appear on menus throughout the festival — folded through warm, comforting dishes and shared around tables by the fire.

An extended winter experience

Rather than a single weekend, the Noojee Truffle Festival unfolds over three weeks, inviting visitors to slow down and stay a little longer.

The program will include:

  • Truffle hunts and farm experiences with trained dogs
  • Chef-led dinners, long lunches and seasonal menus
  • Workshops, cooking demonstrations and tasting experiences
  • Heritage, nature and cultural activities across the area

It’s a chance to spend a winter’s day — or a weekend — following your nose through the region.

More than just food

Beyond the plate, the experience extends into the landscape.

Forest walks, scenic lookouts and cycling routes such as the Rokeby to Neerim Rail Trail offer a different way to explore Noojee and its surrounds, while local accommodation, cafés and country pubs provide a warm welcome at the end of the day.

This is winter as it should be — crisp air, wood fires, good food and something worth travelling for.

A festival grounded in place

The Noojee Truffle Festival has been developed by local truffle growers, businesses and community organisations, and is supported by the Victorian Government through the Forestry Transition Program Community Development Fund.

It reflects a region shaping its future through food, tourism and connection to place — inviting visitors to be part of that story.
