MELBOURNE DONUT FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR A SPRING SUGAR RUSH

Three new traders join a stacked line-up of Melbourne’s sweetest favourites

Melbourne’s sweetest weekend is back, with the Melbourne Donut Festival returning to Queen Victoria Market for a special spring edition on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October.

Taking over the Market’s C & D Sheds from 9am to 4pm, the free two-day festival will bring together 18 donut and dessert traders, serving everything from classic jam donuts and French crullers to mochi donuts, Greek loukoumades, flame-brûléed creations and some seriously unconventional takes on the humble donut.

And while plenty of festival favourites are making their return, there are three new names joining the Melbourne Donut Festival line-up this spring, bringing marshmallow-inspired creations, cult Melbourne donuts and scrolls to the mix.

FRESH OUT OF THE FRYER

Making their Melbourne Donut Festival debut this October:

  • Mixed Bag: Putting a playful spin on the donut brief with handcrafted marshmallows and donut-inspired drinksincluding hot and iced Campfire Drinks, alongside flavours such as jam/lemon curd and milk/white chocolate.
  • All Day Donuts: One of Melbourne’s much-loved donut names joins the festival for the first time, bringing its signature donuts to Queen Victoria Market.
  • Numi Melbourne: Bringing the scrolls with cream cheese-topped and original glazed cinnamon scrolls, alongside drinks including Strawberry Collagen Matcha, Matcha Coconut Cloud and a Lychee & Strawberry Mocktail.

OLD FAVOURITES, NEW REASONS TO INDULGE

The newcomers will be joined by a bumper crop of returning favourites, with plenty for donut purists and adventurous eaters alike.

Shortstop Coffee & Donuts returns with its handcrafted French Crullers, Yeast Raised and Cake Donuts, while Crème Brûlée Donuts will once again torch its signature custard-filled creations with vanilla, Nutella and berry varieties on the menu.

For something with a little more chew, Demochi Donuts will serve Japanese-style mochi donuts in flavours including cinnamon, matcha, strawberry, pandan and Biscoff, while Pretzel Station blurs the line between donut and pretzel with cinnamon, chocolate sprinkle, lamington and Raffaello creations.

Jamm’d Dessert Bar is going big with its hot Danish donuts, including Pistachio Papi and Biscoff varieties, while St. Gerry’s and Sweet Lokma will fly the flag for golden Greek loukoumades.

Those after something more left-of-field can make a beeline for Pasta Face where Italian-inspired sweet and savoury creations include Mac N Cheese Croquettes Donuts, gnocchi donuts and a Donut Chicken Parma Slider.

Also returning across the weekend are Gippsland Giant Donuts, OMG Decadent Donuts, Manny’s Doughnuts, Walker’s Doughnuts , Churro Kitchen and That’s Alotta Donuts, rounding out a line-up designed to satisfy just about every kind of sweet tooth.

Alongside the sugar hit, festival-goers can enjoy live entertainment and strike a pose with the festival’s larger-than-life inflatable donut, before settling in for a full day of donut-fuelled fun.

Whether you’re firmly committed to a hot jam donut, partial to a brûléed custard bomb or ready to find out exactly what a donut-inspired marshmallow drink tastes like, the Melbourne Donut Festival is serving up another weekend worth loosening the belt buckle for.
