For many Australians living with coeliac disease, pizza night simply is not worth the risk. Even when ordering a gluten-free base, concerns around cross-contamination in traditional pizzerias can mean one of Italy’s most-loved dining experiences remains off the menu.
On Saturday 1 August,The Botanica Vaucluse will recreate the Italian pizzeria experience in its dedicated 100% gluten-free, Coeliac Australia-certified kitchen, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy pizza night without second-guessing every bite.
Leading the night is Naples-born pizza chef Marco Iona, who previously served as Head Pizza Chef at Merivale’s Coogee Pavilion. For one night only, Marco will bring his authentic Italian approach to The Botanica Vaucluse, creating a menu that captures the spirit of a traditional pizzeria in a 100% gluten-free kitchen.
A dedicated Citrina Limoncello Bar will also form part of the evening, bringing another layer of Italian flavour and theatre to the experience.
Rather than focusing on what is missing, the event has been designed to capture everything diners love about a traditional Italian night out; generous food, shared plates and a sense of occasion — with the reassurance of a fully gluten-free kitchen.
The Botanica Vaucluse Venue and Events Manager Sara Paganelli said the evening was about giving people living with coeliac disease the confidence to enjoy the full experience. “For many people living with coeliac disease, pizza night comes with concerns about cross-contamination. We wanted to create an authentic Italian experience where guests can simply relax, enjoy incredible food and leave the worry at the door.”
Tucked away in Vaucluse, The Botanica is one of Sydney’s few Coeliac Australia-certified restaurants, combining elevated dining with the reassurance of a dedicated gluten-free kitchen.
Italian Pizza Night continues the venue’s commitment to proving gluten-free dining does not need to come at the expense of flavour, creativity or experience.
