Prosciutto, mortadella, stracciatella and pistachio dust are all on the menu, but only until the first 100 disappear
On Tuesday, August 11, Mr Panino is celebrating National Panini Day the only way an Italian panini shop should: by giving away 100 full-sized panini for free.
From 11:30 am, hungry office workers, locals and anyone who suddenly finds themselves “in the area” can head to Mr Panino and choose one of three Southern Italian favourites.
No tiny samples. No half sandwiches. No complicated catch. Just one full panino per person, until all 100 are gone.
Andiamo!
With 3 of their best sellers to choose from. The first option is the Capri, layered with mozzarella, oxheart tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano. Fresh, simple and very Italian — because sometimes four good ingredients are all you need.
Then there is The Italian Job, stacked with prosciutto, mozzarella, shaved Parmesan and rocket, finished with balsamic glaze and extra virgin olive oil. A little salty, a little sharp and definitely not here to be subtle.
For those who like lunch on the richer side, the Mortazza brings together smooth ricotta, thinly sliced mortadella, creamy stracciatella and pistachio dust. Basically, it is mortadella’s big day out.
The giveaway kicks off at 11:30am sharp and finishes as soon as the hundredth panino leaves the counter. With Barangaroo full of hungry workers and only 100 available, a leisurely 1 pm lunch break may be a risky move.
The event is Mr Panino’s way of bringing a little Southern Italian lunchtime energy to Sydney’s corporate heartland — fresh bread, generous fillings and absolutely no interest in boring sandwich platters.
“In Italy, lunch is serious business,” says Francesco, the owner of Mr Panino. “We wanted to celebrate National Panini Day by feeding Barangaroo the way we know best — fresh bread, beautiful ingredients and big Italian flavour. But there are only 100, so don’t be troppo lento.”
